On May 12, the news of departure of HH Cardinal Nasrallah Boutros Sfeir saddened us as for the Christians of Lebanon and around the world.

HH Cardinal Sfeir hold the holy seat amid immense turmoil in Lebanon and in the whole Middle East region by being a voice of justice, peace and equality. We salute his memory.

On behalf of European Syriac Union, ESU as a Syriac Christian organization supporting the fundamental rights of Chaldean-Syriac-Assyrian people and Christians, we extend our sincere condolences to your Eminence, to Maronite and Christian community in Lebanon and Christians around the world with the departure of beloved HH Cardinal Sfeir.

With this occasion, we would like also to highlights historical brotherhood and common challenges regarding the future of Christians in the Middle East region and the need of concerted efforts to preserve unique Christian heritage and survival.
